The brand Maruti Suzuki has written the history with model WagonR as it has become the most successful creation of the company. The car provides a simplistic approach, affordability, gratifying space, and terrific functionality. It has become the most favourable choice between car options for consumers.
The styling of the WagonR is designed on the basis of the heartect platform, which indicates that it has similarity in architecture like Baleno, Swift, Ignis, and etc. The heartect platform is lighter in the context of fuel efficiency and better performance. It is also rigid and stronger when it comes to safety, handling, and for comfortable ride.
The new model WagonR is 1,675 mm taller, 3,655 mm longer, and 1,620 mm wider in comparison to the outgoing model. The new car model is designed remarkably with better stance and with the help of additional width. It obtained tall body designing with inherited profile and proportions, and all the straight lines with sharp edges have been improved by smoothing. It is a well structured personality creation model ‘WagonR’ with dual headlamps of spearhead shaped, shoulder line prominently sculptured, slim grille, flared wheel curves, tall tail-lights. As every fact has been improvised and is commendable, it would have been better if doors had more contours.
Review on Interior:
While entering the cabin, there is a noticeable ingress and egress, which is absolutely outstanding. There is enough space for headroom and that makes the environment welcoming. It has a sense of airiness, which makes it different from others, which is a very convincing point. As the additional width has been improvised, it makes room for your shoulders, so that the shoulders with your fellow passengers will not get into a problematic situation. There is a black and beige interior combination that brightens up the entire space with a new touchscreen ‘Smartplay Studio’. The company also claims that the car is loaded with the features like real time traffic updates, phone charging, news, and others. The Smartplay Studio has remarkable graphics for instantaneous fuel, range, economy, and so on. It also features a vehicle alert, which helps to inform about parking brakes, door open, low fuel, and seat belt. It is built with a display that has a clock, date, day, and etc.
The car has integrated reverse parking sensors, which consist of smart graphic display as well. The top variant has a feature of a colorful instrument cluster, which also has a large round speedometer with smaller digital rpm meter that is placed with it. The trip meter is processed by button lever that provides old machine touch, but a good one. It has a three-spoke steering wheel that feels sporty, but the A/C vents are a bit mismatched. The A/C vents on the dashboard are round shaped, whereas the one placed in between are rectangular shaped and they are positioned vertically. The plastics in the cabin could have been improvised better, especially the knob to adjust ORVM and switches for power windows. The seats can be considered as decent, but may not be comfortable and supportive like you want it to be, especially if one has to spend longer time in there. The space is enough, better and the rear seats have bigger dimensions too.
The space for legroom is bigger enough with extra width, where three people can be easily adjusted on back seats. There is one down siding point that the headrests are designed way too low, which creates problems in neck support. It would be better if it has adjustable headrests designed with it, especially in the back. The boot capacity of the car has increased in comparison to previous models, and can adjust sufficient luggage. There are variants that offer seats with 60:40 split to increase flexibility. But in order to lower the loading lip, which is knee high, the tailgate has turned shorter and tall, which might be difficult to shut it down. It has a handgrip in the cabin that makes reaching up easier.
Review on Engine and Transmission:
The new model of WagonR has two petrol engine options, which are three-cylinder 1 litre and makes 90 Nm and 68 PS of torque, and four-cylinder 1.2 litre that makes 113 Nm and 83 PS of torque. Both the engine comes from K series of Maruti and most of the consumers must be familiar with it. The four-cylinder unit is powerful and refined as well as the three-cylinder unit is appreciable.
By driving 1.2, the new model felt responsive and acted sprightly. In case you dump the clutch, it gets off the mark quickly, and with the fact of being lighter (845 kgs – ZXI-AGS) with power ratio, it proves to be instant. It has positively packed more punch in comparison to its predecessor with fuel capacity of 21.5 kmpl and with 22.5 kmpl for 1.0 litre.
The gear shift is light and smooth in the manual mode, and most customers will not have complaints in urban driving conditions. The company has been continuously improving the performance and AGS system.
If we talk about the power plants, the 1.0 litre engine should be enough for most people. And if you do not wish to experience street racing, the 68 PS should be your choice of engine, because if compared both base models, the 1.0 litre engine is Rs. 70,000 less expensive, which is quite a bigger amount of saving.
The driving dynamics has turned the experience into a different level with wider track, new stiffer platform, and torsion beam suspension at the rear. The passenger and driver both can benefit with the changes in this car, which feels quite composed when crossing over undulations in the road and broken patches, it turns hurdles into safer paths.
In this car, you can sit high with a low designed short bonnet, dashboard, with front visibility and it is easily transportable. The driving experience becomes more easy and enjoyable. The brakes are designed in a spongy form, but you can feel the power in your hands. The airbag of driver and ABS are standardized on the top end version and optical is equalized on others. The steering is designed lighter, and can be a bit over assisting, which lacks feedback. However, the usual users will find it fine.
Price in India: The price range starts from 5.25 lakhs (ex-showroom in Delhi) with enhanced qualities and with a better driving dynamic.
