This holy temple is located in Tamil Nadu, India; devoted to Ranganatha (also known as Lord Vishnu); the temple covers an area of 155 acres. It has 50 shrines, 39 pavilions, nine sacred water pool, 21 towers, and carved with beautiful sculptures and shrines.
 
The temple is surrounded by Kaveri River, also known as Dakshin Ganga or the “Ganges of South”, the temple is under the care of Government of Tamil Nadu. It has puranic story, according to people, lord Ram worshiped for a long time, and after he secured win over demon Ravana, he gifted the temple to Vibhishan.
 
Later lord Vishnu appeared and asked Vibhishan to stay there as Ranganatha. The main statue is made of Stucco, from that time Lord Vishnu is known as Ranganatha in temple.
The temple devotees feed free food to two hundred people, and the fund is totally contributed from devotees.

But because of Lord Indra’s leela, Lord Vishnu came late and angrily took pledge not to step again in Madurai; and he went to the mountains of Algar Koyil. Later on, all god & goddess together went to him and requested to accession the marriage of Shiva and Parvati. People celebrate that day as a festival of Chithirai Tiruvijha Azhagar tiruvijha in Madurai which lasts for one month. But according to some scholars, these are just part of a Hindu Mythology.
